COTTONWOOD:    Tonight the men and women of Cottonwood Volunteer Fire joined together for the 2016 Christmas Party.

Cottonwood Mayor Ken Hamilton and members of the Cottonwood City Council thanked the men and women for their service to the community. No matter the task, no matter the time, these volunteers give of their time, resources and money in order to save lives and property.

Mayor Hamilton recognized the Cottonwood Volunteer Fireman of the year - Rickey Owens. He was presented an awesome plaque for his retirement.

Owens retired from Dothan Police Department many years ago. After that retirement he became very active with the Cottonwood Volunteer Fire Department. He worked many hours to make sure all administrative duties were accomplished and physical tasks in order to run the department. In addition, most of the calls made by Cottonwood Volunteer Fire, well Rickey Owens was on.

While Owens said he is retiring, all bet he will still be as involved as he has been. He loves the Cottonwood community and the service with the fire department.

Dothan - Houston County new Emergency Management Director, Chris Judah, was invited to the Christmas Party by Mayor Hamilton. While Judah will not take over the reigns of Emergency Management until January, he is making rounds and contacts with area leaders. Judah's desire is to form a bond and relationship with the area volunteers and agencies in order to establish a personal relationship.

THANKS to the men and women of Cottonwood that volunteer their time and energies to serve and protect. You are truly hometown hereos in that you place your lives on the line, allow your personal time to be used, in order to save lives and property.

THANKS to Mayor Hamilton and the Cottonwood City Council Members for making the night a special night in honor of these who serve.
