Emergency Responders That Are Normally Not Noticed or Recognized

DOTHAN - HOUSTON COUNTY:     Primary members of the emergency responder network who most often  times are never acknowledged or recognized.

After Monday night's tornado and deaths in Houston County, RSN wants to highlight those who serve and place their lives in danger.

Those men and women are the City of Dothan Utilities, Wiregrass Electric Utilities and Alabama Power Utilities.

When emergencies strike, these men and women roll to the scene to make sure that power is cut and the working area is a complete safety zone. And their response can make the difference in the victim of an emergency having their life saved, or the emergency responder not getting into a dangerous situation with live power lines.

On Monday, Leonard Drive was not in the City Limits of Dothan Alabama. It was in the county and not served by Dothan. But due to the large response area for Alabama Power Company Dothan Utilities rolled to the scene. Shortly after their arrival Alabama Power was on the scene.

All three utility companies work together. They not only keep the emergency responders safe, they keep our homes warm and cold, the lights on, and in dangerous conditions are getting power connected once again.

One thing Rickey Stokes learned early in life during my days as Houston County Coroner. I have seen the results of that you can not see kill you. I do not touch power lines. I will not get close.

But these men and women roll, and take care of everyone.

Also these departments have emergency operations centers. When utilities could be in danger, the men and women activate the emergency centers to field the calls. THANKS for all you do.

People in Rehobeth sent me messages about the three utility companies and their work. It was noticed. You are noticed. You are appreciated. And you are, in my book, one of the first responder agencies to emergencies.

THANK YOU Wiregrass Electric Co-Op, City of Dothan Utilities, Alabama Power and other utility companies in the area.
