The Enterprise Police Department would like to inform the public of a phone scam in the Enterprise area that was previously reported in January of this year. The potential victim will receive a phone call from a subject purporting to be a representative of Alabama Power. The subject will inform them that if their bill is not paid within a specified time frame, their power would be cut off.
The Enterprise Police Department made contact with Alabama Power and they advised this is not proper protocol for employees. Alabama Power will not call customers to cut off power and will only make a call directing customers to come in person. These scams are very elaborate including lots of details about the potential victim including names, phone numbers, and possibly account numbers.
Alabama Power advised that if you receive this phone call you may call them to report the incident. Alabama Power can be contacted by phone 1-800-245-2244 or customers can go to their local Alabama Power facility.
The Enterprise Police Department would like to encourage everyone to independently verify information if you receive this type of phone call.
