Connor Vernon, a resident of Dothan, passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at a local hospital. He was 63.


Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Tuesday, January 24, 2017 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ralph Sigler officiating. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery in Donalsonville, Georgia. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 5-7 pm. Flowers are being accepted or donations may be made to the Wiregrass Humane Society, PO Box 1045, Dothan, AL 36302.


Connor was born on August 1, 1953 in Birmingham, AL and lived there the early years of his life. He attended Troy State University on a track scholarship, where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and a Masters Degree in Meteorology from Mississippi State. While attending Troy State, he worked as an announcer with WTBF, in the mid 1970's he worked with WKMX where he was a host on the Vernon and Leonard Morning Show. He began his television career in Tallahassee, FL on WTXL as a Meteorologist. He would then move to Austin, Texas where he worked with KTBC for 17 years. Upon returning to Dothan in 2002 he worked with WTVY Radio and then WTVY Television. Connor worked with WDHN until his recent illness. He was an avid reader and loved to receive gift cards to Barnes and Noble. Connor was a member of the Dothan Rotary Club and attended Harvest Church.


Connor was preceded in death by his mother, Dora Jean Connor and by his father-in-law, Harvie D. Kennedy.


Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Sue Vernon; his father, Jack Vernon; his mother-in-law, Agnes Kennedy; his brothers, Eugene (Marie) Vernon and Theo Vernon; his brother-in-law, Stan (Melody) Kennedy; his 2 nieces, Kimberly (Will) Kennedy and Karen (Michael Jon) Rogerson; his nephew, Boone (Victoria) Kennedy; his 2 great-nephews, Brody Rogerson and Brayden Rogerson.


Serving as active pallbearers will be Boone Kennedy, Michael Jon Rogerson, Will Heard, Charlie Platt, Ben Stanfield, and Chuck Leonard Mashburn. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Jerome Jackson, KW Keene, Jim Whaley, Terry Duffie, and Phil Green.
