DOTHAN:   Gordon Mayor Elbert Melton has three pending criminal charges in Houston County. Tonight Mayor Elbert Melton was arrested on a fourth criminal offense.


The offense arrested tonight, Theft of Property in the second degree. Melton has been booked into the Houston County Jail where is expected to post a $ 15,000.00 bond.


The offense stems from a case investigated by Houston County Sheriff Department. It involves the purchase of the old Gordon Police vehicle.


Mayor Elbert Melton was arrested on March 14, 2017 on three county's of Absentee Ballot Fraud. That case was also investigated by Houston County Sheriff Department. He is currently on three $ 15,000.00 bonds. He is represented by Attorney Lee Knowles of Geneva on those three charges.


Melton remains Mayor and will remain Mayor unless convicted on a felony offense or he resigns.
