On 3-30-17 at approximately 6:10 p.m. members of the United States Marshal Service; North Florida Regional Task Force, The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office, The Graceville Police Department, and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office took Robert Mathew Larry into custody at the intersection of Hwy 2 and Mill Creek Rd. for outstanding warrants.
Larry’s Jackson County warrant was for Failure to Appear: Failure to Comply with Sex Offender Registration Requirements, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Resisting an Officer without Violence. The original charges were the result of a Graceville Police Department arrest. The Holmes County warrant was for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender.
Mr. Larry was originally charged in 2008 with the Capital Sexual Battery of a (2) two year old child in Holmes County. After being released from prison, he registered as a sexual predator, as required by law.
Predator status may be designated by the courts, rather than offender status, when one or more of the following mitigating circumstances exist: The victim was of a very young age, the crime was particularly violent in nature, or the offender had been previously convicted of a sex crime.
Mr. Larry was arrested by the Graceville Police Department on 10-28-16 when he was found in possession of a meth pipe. He gave officers a false name and was residing at a location other than the address he listed on his sex offender registration.
He bonded out on 2-14-17 and failed to appear for his first scheduled court date on 3-17-17. A Failure to Appear warrant was subsequently issued by the courts.
After his release on bond, Holmes County attempted to conduct a routine address verification, but learned that he had not resided at his registered address for over two weeks, which resulted in the Holmes County warrant being issued.
On 3-21-17 Mr. Larry’s case was submitted to the United States Marshal Service for assistance in bringing him to justice. The request was made based on a concern for public safety as well as the fluid living conditions of the fugitive.
As a result of the cooperative effort, Mr. Larry was taken into custody without incident. He was lodged in the Jackson County Correctional Facility to await first appearance. He will later be transported to Holmes County to answer to his charges.
Jackson County Sheriff Lou Roberts lll along with Holmes County Sheriff John Tate would like to express their gratitude to the Graceville Police Department and the United States Marshal Service for their assistance in bringing this fugitive to justice.
