CRENSHAW COUNTY:     Members of the Houston County Commission and area county commissioners traveled to Crenshaw County tonight.

The Alabama Association of County Commissioners is holding a area meeting with the elected officials. The association is discussing talking points for ATRIP $ 1.2 BILLION DOLLAR tax increase. They are also discussing other talking points with the commissioners on legislation they want passed and they want to fail.

Under the direction of Houston County Commission Chairman Mark Culver, the Houston County Commission was set to discuss and call for a vote for the $ 1.2 BILLION DOLLAR tax increase. Culver had moved the discussion from last Thursday until Monday. On Monday he passed it until a area public hearing could be held.

That area public hearing is scheduled in Henry County on February 2 at Headland High School.

Several commissioners traveled to the Crenshaw County meeting. Commissioner of District 2 could not refuse to spend time with Chairman Culver so he attended with Culver.

While I have known about it and have self invited myself, I did know of tonights meeting for several days. But I really did not want to attend.

The agenda can be summed up real easy - the commissioners want more money they can spend and do not have a desire to let the registered voters cast their vote because they know, pattern and practice, the registered voters will not approve the $ 1.2 BILLION DOLLAR tax increase.

That is a "in general" statement. We will put any commissioner on camera to explain their position, and to explain why they DO NOT want to allow the registered voters to vote on this issue.

Until then, your commissioners are in Luverne. They are at a Methodist Church, which is good!
