HOUSTON COUNTY:    Alabama law requires a person arrested and bond not made within 72 hours is required to appear before a Judge for arraignment.

Today, Christmas Eve, Houston County District Court Judge Benjamin Lewis was at the Houston County Jail at 10:30 AM. Judge Lewis had three inmates to see this morning.

At arraignment the Judge advises each inmate with what they are charged with, the bond amount, the rights each person has, and if they can afford an attorney or not. If the person qualifies then Judge Lewis appoints that person an attorney.

So on Christmas Eve, Judge Benjamin Lewis was working.
