On March 28th, 2017 at approximately 5:37 a.m., officers with the Marianna Police Department responded to Three Rivers Apartments in reference to an intoxicated male attempting to make entry to an apartment. As officers were arriving, a male subject was observed beating on an apartment door. Officers contacted the subject, later identified as Carlton Curry, and attempted to ascertain what was happening. Curry was uncooperative with officers and refused to speak with them.

The occupant of the apartment opened the door, to speak with officers, and Curry pushed her back inside the apartment, and entered behind her. The female occupant was heard, by officers, telling Curry not to enter her residence. As officers attempted to remove Curry from the apartment, Curry engaged officers in a physical altercation. After a brief struggle, Curry was taken into custody.

As officers were conducting a search of Curry’s person, a loaded .380 pistol was located in his back pocket. Additionally, Curry was found to be in possession of a clear plastic bag which contained marijuana.  As officers continued to search Curry, two grayish colored “rocks” were located in his front pocket. These “rocks” would later test positive for opiates, specifically Morphine.

During the course of this investigation, it was discovered Curry does not have a concealed carry permit for the firearm in his back pocket. Further, officers learned Curry is a convicted felon, and prohibited from possessing a handgun. In addition, officers learned that Curry had been involved in an intimate relationship with the occupant of the apartment. She provided a statement to officers, Curry had struck her earlier, and that lead to her telling him not to return to her residence.  Curry was under the influence of alcohol and or other substances at the time of this incident.

Curry was transported to the Jackson County Jail, without further incident, to await his first appearance on the above listed criminal charges.
