On May 04, 2017, at approximately 1:17am, officers with the Marianna Police Department conducted a traffic stop in the area of Kelson Avenue and Daniels Street, due to the vehicle not having a license plate displayed. As officers made contact with the occupants of the vehicle, the odor of marijuana was detected emanating from inside. Officers instructed the occupants of the vehicle to exit, and conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle.
During the search, a plastic storage container was located in the rear seat, concealed inside a tent bag. The container was found to contain marijuana. During the course of this incident, Mayer, who was seated in the rear of the vehicle at the time of the traffic stop, admitted to being the owner of the marijuana. Mayer was placed under arrest and transported the Jackson County Correctional Facility, to await her first appearance before the court.
A short time after Mayer was dropped off, the Marianna Police Department was contacted and asked to send an officer to the jail. Upon arriving at the jail, the officer was advised, Mayer had concealed a plastic bag on her person that was located during the booking process. The bag was noted to contain a white powdery substance. This substance was later tested, and yielded a positive result for the presence of cocaine.
In addition to the original charge for possession of marijuana, Mayer was charged with possession of cocaine, and introducing contraband, the cocaine, into a correctional facility.
