On February 4th, 2017 at approximately 2:48 a.m., officers with the Marianna Police Department responded to Three Rivers Apartments, located at 3070 Carters Mill Road, in reference to a custody dispute. Upon arrival officers made contact with Shantana Hayes. Hayes informed officers, she and Larry Jackson are the parents of an infant child, and Jackson would not return the child to her. Officers made contact with Larry Jackson in his apartment. Upon making contact with Jackson, it was noted that he had several scratches to the right side of his face. Jackson advised officers, he had received the injuries when he was physically attacked by Shantana Hayes. Two independent witnesses confirmed Jackson’s accounts of the incident.

During the course of this investigation officers learned, after the physical altercation Hayes had left her infant child on the sidewalk in front of the apartments. The infant, a 4 month old child, had been left in a car seat, without proper clothing or covers for the weather conditions. Hayes returned to her vehicle in an attempt to leave. Jackson retrieved his child and placed her inside his apartment. He then confronted Hayes about her abandoning the child on the sidewalk. After a brief verbal altercation, Jackson returned to his residence.

Officers again made contact with Hayes, who admitted to injuring Jackson during this incident. As Hayes was being placed under arrest she began to resist officers. Hayes made several attempts to pull away from officers and flee the area. Officers were able to subdue Hayes and take her into custody. Hayes was transported to the Jackson County Jail to await first appearance on the above stated charges.
