GENEVA COUNTY:    Recently Alabama Governor Robert Bentley was in Dothan - Houston County to survey the tornado damage and meet the families of those who died.

When Governor Bentley was at the Houston County Courthouse we were alerted that Houston County Commission Chairman Mark Culver wanted and got a private one on one meeting with the Governor. Until this weekend the specifics of the private meeting were not known.

Well, there is a opening on the Geneva County Commission. One commissioner, Jimmy Hill, won the vote for County Commissioner. But after the election he was asked to be the Chief of Police in Samson. Hill had to choose which one he wanted and his choice was Chief of Police. That left his position as Geneva County Commissioner vacant.

The Republican Party is to submit names to Alabama Governor Robert Bentley their recomendations. UNCONFIRMED we understand they submitted Sandy Hammer, Henry Hatcher and Coley Andress.

But we have been sent a copy of a email reported to have been sent to the members of the Geneva County Republican Party asking to be selected as Geneva County Commissioner. And that person, Lisa Donaldson, is a business partner to Houston County Commission Chairman Mark Culver.

The email is as follows:

Subject: Donaldson

Geneva County Republican Executive Committee Member,

My name is Lisa Donaldson and I would like to ask for your support as a candidate to fill the vacancy on the Geneva County Commission.

I have been in Education and a small business owner in Samson my entire adult life and love the area that is still home to my parents, family and friends. I care about our community and want to work with my fellow Geneva County Commissioners and mayors, officials in the region and our state delegation to make Geneva County better…better roads, better services, better jobs. I currently manage NUW Graphics in Dothan and Samson, and work with Houston County Commission Chairman Mark Culver who has committed to use his 30 years of experience to help me as I gain experience as your Commissioner. My work with the County will be of cooperation with my fellow County Commissioners but I will make decisions based on my grounded Geneva County upbringing of right and wrong, not on political expediency.

I will proudly run for election in 2020 as a Republican and hope I can count on your support now as a member of the Executive Committee and then because you feel I have represented you well.
It is not lost on me that I would be the first woman to serve on the Geneva County Commission if selected. It would be an honor I would not take lightly and would make me work even harder to deserve that designation.

I will be happy to discuss my candidacy with you and can be contacted at 334/558-6751. I truly would appreciate your vote on Tuesday night and commit to do my best for District Four and the County.

Thank you for your consideration.

Lisa Donaldson

At this time there has not been an appointment made. But now we have a good idea of what Houston County Chairman Mark Culver's private meeting with Alabama Governor Robert Bentley was about.
