PFC James O. Whitehurst honored and remembered at the Angel of Hope Statue at Westgate Park

PFC James Ottis Whitehurst joined the United States Marines to serve and protect the country that he loved. On November 20th, 1943 PFC Whitehurst paid the ultimate price for his country after landing on the Island of Betio in an attempt to secure the Island. The landing team met stiff resistance from the Japanese army and over 1000 U.S Soldiers lost their lives. Since that day in 1943 to the time of their death, his parents Benjamon and Delilah Whitehurst never knew where their son’s remains were. After recent discovery of a burial site on that island, PFC Whitehurst’s remains were located and today he was buried at a graveside service in his hometown. I had Miles of Flowers make a beautiful arrangement to place at the base of the Angel Of Hope Statue so that the son of Benjamon and Delilah Whitehurst will never be forgotten.
