This is our grandson, Riley Phillips with Mike Schmitz, Mayor, at the Angel of Hope Dedication Ceremony. He is very proud of this picture as we are very proud of Riley for his role in helping with the Dedication Ceremony and the Candlelight Vigil. Riley handed out brochures, candles and flowers and also helped arrange all the refreshments. Riley’s Mother, April Kirby-Phillips was murdered during a carjacking in 2008, when he was only two years old. Riley understands clearly that most of the folks out there had actually lost their own child and he was generous and loving to all. He has a heart of gold just as his Mother did. We have raised him to see that helping others is actually therapy for yourself and your family. While we miss those who are no longer with us, whether it’s a child, sibling, parent, friend, spouse or even your beloved pet, we cannot bring them back. However, we can honor their memory and not forget about them. This time of year is exceptionally hard for all of us that are grieving any loss. What is important is that we live a life that honors God and that we will be with those we have lost again, in eternity. Please never forget our loved ones and also don’t forget that we ALL serve a purpose on this earth. God created us to be survivors and to help one another. It is not our place to facilitate our journey to get back with those we miss. God will take us in his own time and when our work is finished. Please, pray and reach out for help now and all year if you are having extreme problems coping with your loss. There are churches, friends & family that care about you. Your loved one would want you to live your life the best that you can. Thank you Steve Hardwick, Mayor Schmitz, Rickey & Jane Saliba and ALL those who helped bring this Angel of Hope to Dothan for a place of peace.
