Sam E. “Sonny” Loftin, Jr., 67 of Phenix City, AL, died January 18, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, GA. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm EST, on Saturday, January 21, 2017, at Lakewood Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Keown officiating. The family will receive friends at Lakewood Baptist Church on Saturday from 12:00 to 2:00 pm, two hours prior to the service. Sam was born July 30, 1949, in Mobile, AL son of the late Sam E. Loftin, Sr. and Sara Margaret Ward Loftin. After graduating from Law School, he spent the first years of his career working with the Homer Cornett Law Firm.


Then he opened his own firm, currently Loftin, Loftin, and May, where he practiced for over forty years. Sam is a past president of the Russell County Bar Association and the East Alabama Trial Lawyers Association. He was a member of the Alabama Association of Justice and served on the executive committee. Sam served his community as member of the Golden Quarter Club and the Russell County Historic Commission. He also served on the board and as Chairman of the Board for both Glenwood and the Doris C. Weaver Girls Club. Sam was a long time member of Lakewood Baptist Church in Phenix City, AL, where he served as a deacon and was the founding member of the TV ministry.


He is survived by his former wife and friend, Fran Loftin of Phenix City, AL; four daughters, Ila Shea Rollo of Smiths Station, AL, Mary Margaret Galarza of Phenix Ctiy, AL, Bille Jean Price and husband Ted of Birmingham, AL and Sara Elizabeth Loftin of Phenix City, AL; four sisters, Sara Oakley and husband Woody of Beauford, SC, Becky Watson and husband Jerry of Hartford, AL, Susan Galloway and husband Kenny of Hartford, AL and Terri Stone-Montgomery of Hartford, AL; two brothers, Mike Loftin and wife Terry of Hartford, AL and Pat Loftin and wife Tracie of Phenix City, AL; six grandchildren, Samantha and husband Jamie Wheeler, Jeffery, Anna, Bella, Sara Kate and Bassett; a host of other loving relatives and many caring friends. Additionally, he loved his dog Flick. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Doris C. Weaver Girls Club, P. O. Box 2940, Phenix City, AL 36868.
