SLOCOMB - GENEVA COUNTY:     The cities and counties throughout Geneva County might not have much money.

But what they do have is some great dedicated men and women in the community who are dedicated to serve and protect their community.

This past Tuesday weather hit Slocomb Alabama. Many people's lives were interrupted, houses damaged, trees down, homes damaged. The Slocomb Fire - Rescue Station as was many residents of Slocomb were without power.

But the men and women of Slocomb Fire - Rescue took charge, established a command center, and took control of the safety of the citizens in and around their community.

Dothan Fire Department mutual aid responded to Slocomb to assist. But when Dothan arrived, people like Kyle Hovey already had the emergency operations center being managed and resources deployed where needed.

Geneva County Sheriff Tony Helms was on the scene. Slocomb Police Chief White was on duty and managing the law enforcement operations.

Geneva County Emergency Management was on the scene. Dothan - Houston County Emergency Management Director Chris Judah and staff Leigh Adams and Kris Ware responded to assist.

Houston - Henry County District Attorney Pat Jones responded with Dothan - Houston County Emergency Management to assist.

Alabama State Senator Harri Anne Smith came home from the Alabama Legislature to make sure the community had all resources needed for the emergency. Smith did not attend the State of the State Address of the Governor because she felt her people in the community were best served with her on the scene and not listening to a speech.

Slocomb Mayor was very proud of the staff and volunteers of Slocomb. The Mayor praised them being on top of everything and the community needs being handled.

Multiple departments responded throughout Geneva County and Houston County to assist. They jumped in cutting trees and debris and taking care of needs.

PROUD OF SLOCOMB FIRE - RESCUE

A model for the area is Slocomb Fire - Rescue, Hartford Fire - Rescue and Geneva Fire-Rescue.

These agencies have developed and implemented plans to make sure the people of Geneva County are protected with emergency fire - medical services.

A group of dedicated individuals brainstormed ideas, developed a plan, and implemented the plan.

And this past Tuesday was an example of the planning and plame execution that they have accomplished.

Great Job.
