Recently we asked Andy Hughes about some tips concerning different situations a person could find themselves in.

In today's climate, you never know when and where something could erupt.

The following information was supplied to us by Andy. Information I hope you never need but some education material that could one day be helpful to know.

Hughes also consulted with the Washington Times on a article they wrote:

After ‘pizzagate’ shooting, an industry trained in hospitality thinks about security

Below are comments from Andy Hughes:

School/Workplace different than restaurant. Students and employees at these establishments will be aware of an active shooter response plan. In a restaurant the employees may be aware of a plan that restaurant has in place but the patrons/customers will not. Businesses should be running rehearsal drills to prepare employees to not only help themselves but to assist customers also during an active shooter event.

When you enter a restaurant or any other public venue you should immediately identify all exits including fire exits. Also identify bathrooms, closets, and any other room where you could escape to and shelter in place until rescued. Stay away from the door once your secured inside.

During an actual event, once you've escaped the building or sheltered in place call 911 and provide detailed descriptions of shooter(s), what type of firearms (handgun, shotgun, rifle) the perpetrators are armed with and if any known explosives are involved. Also give location of casualties and their conditions. All of this info will assist first responders once they arrive on the scene.

Average duration of an active shooter event is 12 1/2 minutes, average law enforcement response time is 18 min. Most of the time the event will conclude when the shooter commits suicide. Active shooter events where terrorism is motive the shooter may engage law enforcement in a gun battle or escape. Response times may be quicker on urban and some suburban areas.

Best case scenario would involve an armed law enforcement officer or a legally licensed armed citizen who were present that could quickly kill the active shooter and prevent further injury or death to innocent parties.

Inaction will get you killed quicker than anything. Do something!!! RUN, HIDE, FIGHT.
