COLUMBIA: The Town of Columbia has been battling what many departments have battled for years. The lack of volunteers.
This morning Alabama Emergency Medical Board appeared in Columbia and inspected the ambulance in Columbia. After the inspection the State EMS Board found a number of violations on the ambulance. According to reports the ambulance did not meet the requirements to be a ambulance.
At once the ambulance can not make any runs.
Columbia Rescue and Columbia Fire has been battling the lack of volunteers. The first 7 months, out of 114 calls Columbia Rescue answered 5.
Columbia Fire, out of 41 calls has answered 13 calls in the first six months of this year.
Pilcher Ambulance Service has been responding to the calls in Columbia. That will continue but the Houston County Commission and Columbia Town Council are going to have to do something.
Rickey Stokes met with the Houston County Commissioners when they were meeting at Dothan Civic Center while the Administrative Building was under renovation. It was before Brandon Shoupe was a County Commissioner and Melinda McClendon was a County Commissioner.
Stokes told the Houston County Commissioner there were problems. That recently a call was dispatched as CPR in progress. Pilcher Ambulance does a good job but a minimum of 30 minute response from South Foster Street to Columbia.
If CPR is in progress at dispatch, and a 30 minute response time, go ahead and send the Houston County Coroner.
Well, Mark Culver, Doug Sinquefield, Jackie Battles, Melinda McClendon and Curtis Harvey did nothing. The only thing Culver did was try and get himself a raise and a car allowance. The lives and safety of the people in the Columbia area were not his priority.
Well Houston County Commissioners, "willful neglect of duty" is an offense to remove you from office. So that time is arriving. Either get it fixed or get out of office.
