Stormy Weather Possible this Saturday in Alabama

Forecasters could have a busy week ahead, with three potential rounds of strong to severe storms possible through next week.

Storms, some of them severe, will be possible Saturday, Monday and possibly Thursday as a train of weather systems rolls across the state.

First up is Saturday's system.

NOAA's Storm Prediction Center has placed the western half of the state under a slight risk of severe storms on Saturday, which means that scattered severe storms will be possible.

Much of the rest of the state, except for a portion of south and east Alabama, has a marginal risk, which means that isolated severe storms will be possible.

Rain could enter Alabama as soon as late tonight, but the main window for possible severe weather looks to be Saturday morning and afternoon.

The strongest storms will bring the risk of damaging straight-line winds, heavy rain and hail.

The tornado threat is low but not zero.

The National Weather Service said storms will move into Alabama from Mississippi on Saturday morning but will lose some of their punch as they encounter a less favorable atmosphere in Alabama.

The storms are expected to develop ahead of and along a cold front. The front may not move through the state until Saturday night.
