DOTHAN: This morning members of the Dothan Commission entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Wiregrass Foundation.
This allowed another step in the process of a project of over $ 22 million dollars that will be invested in the Dothan Regional Public Safety Training Center.
This center is for first responders, police - fire - EMS, paid and volunteers to be trained on how to handle multiple types of emergency situations.
As Dothan Commissioner John Ferguson expressed to Dothan Police Chief Steve Parrish and Dothan Fire Chief Larry Williams, you shot for the moon and reached it.
The Wiregrass Foundation will fund $ 20 million dollars of the facility. It will be state of the art in bringing training to the Dothan area. All agencies will be invited to come to Dothan and train, and those agencies will include those paid and those who volunteer.
The President of Wiregrass Foundation, Dr. Barbara Alphord, said the process of making the decision was one of great discussion, planning and thought. This is one of the largest projects that Wiregrass Foundation has ever partnered in. But she believes this is necessary that our first responders will be trained to handle any situations they are presented with.
A dream is on the way to becoming a reality.
