Traffic Stop Leads to Two People Arrested

On Tuesday May 16, 2017 at approx. 2:21 am officers with the Marianna Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a Chevy pick-up truck for an equipment violation. Upon making contact with the occupants of the vehicle the driver was identified as Michael Cotton and the passenger was identified as Laquista Dixon.
Upon speaking with the driver probable cause to search the vehicle was obtained due to the odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. During a probable cause search of the vehicle several marijuana cigarettes were located as well as a quantity of Methamphetamine and a glass pipe used to smoke Methamphetamine.
After further investigation both Cotton and Dixon were placed under arrest. While Cotton was being transported to the Jackson County Correctional Facility Cotton used his feet to kick the back window out of the patrol vehicle and escaped through the window.
Cotton was shortly after apprehended again and taken to the Jackson County Correctional Facility
