Harry Potter Wands Workshop


Harry Potter fans of all ages are invited to a workshop on designing and creating your own wands on Friday, February 3rd from 4:30pm-5:30pm at the Main/Downtown branch! Registration is required online at www.dhcls.org or by phone at 793-9767.


An Afternoon at Hogwarts


Harry Potter fans, ages 12 years old and older (yes, even adults!), are invited to come take lessons in Potions, Herbology, and Defense Against the Dark Arts on Saturday, February 4th from 1pm-4pm at the Main/Downtown branch! You’ll also enjoy some Harry Potter inspired treats during recess at the end of the lessons! Although not required, everyone is encouraged to dress up in their best Harry Potter costumes and to bring their wands! Registration is required online at www.dhcls.org or by phone at 793-9767.


Houston County Auto Tag Renewals


A representative of the Houston County Probate Office will be available Monday, February 6th from 2pm-4:30pm at the Main/Downtown branch to issue auto tag renewals for any Houston County resident.


An Evening with Jim Scible: Author of Blood, Sweat, and Tears for 46 Years


The public is invited to an evening with local author and former Dothan High School football coach, Mr. Jim Scible. He’s discussing his latest memoir about his years as a football coach that offers advice on and off the football field! Additionally, he’s signing and selling copies of his book. Join us on Monday, February 6th at 6pm for a great end to the football season! 


Seniors’ Talk: Tools for Effective Communication


Seniors, caregivers, and loved ones are invited to discussion on the necessary tools for effective communication presented by Covenant Care on February 16th at 1pm at the Main/Downtown branch. Points of discussion include identifying and resolving barriers of communication, describing the components of effective communication, facilitating effective communication, and finally defining how the SBAR tool (situation, background, assessment, and recommendation) can help create effective communication. Health & Wellness Lifestyle Seminar


The public is invited to a Health & Wellness Lifestyle Seminar at the Main/Downtown branch on Monday, February 27th from 1pm-3pm. The seminar features instruction on aerobic exercises, nutrition education on chronic disease prevention, food safety, and a low-calorie healthy cooking demonstration with turkey, fish, and chicken recipes! Space is limited and registration is required online at www.dhcls.org or by phone at 793-9767 from February 14th-February 26th. This program is sponsored and coordinated with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System and the Dothan Houston County Library System.


Medicare 101 Seminar Series


The Medicare 101 Seminar series continues this month on February 28th at 10:30am at the Main/Downtown branch. This series occurs monthly on the 4th Tuesdays at 10:30am, except for March and December 2017. A complete schedule can be viewed online at www.dhcls.org.


 


The Medicare 101 series is presented by Mrs. Beth Kenward in association with the Healthcare Resource Center to help inform Medicare eligibles, those coming onto Medicare, and the caregivers of those on Medicare about their insurance options. Planned topics of discussion include basic Medicare coverage, prescription coverage options, how the prescription coverage GAP works and ways to avoid overspending on medication, supplemental insurance, Medicare Advantage plans, special needs for low income, and requirements of social security.
