HOUSTON COUNTY:    A motion was made by Houston County Commissioner of District 3 Jackie Battles, and a second was made by Houston County Commissioner of District 4 Brandon Shoupe to appoint Chris Judah as Dothan - Houston County Emergency Management Director.

The motion was passed without any opposition.

Chris Judah will begin January 1, 2017 as the new Dothan - Houston County Emergency Management Director. Judah is the only "local" candidate that the 5 members of the Houston County Commission selected to interview.

From 100 applications submitted, Houston County Personnel Director Sheri Thompson weeded those applications to 56. Then the 5 members of the Houston County Commission weeded those to 6. Of those 6 Judah was the only local person selected for interview.

A interview panel was then established and conducted interviews. Houston County Commissioner of District 3, Jackie Battles, was in charge of those interviews.

CHRIS JUDAH

Chris Judah is a good choice for the Dothan - Houston County Emergency Management Director. He brings to the position a vast amount of knowledge about emergency operations.

Judah started his training in Emergency Medical and Fire. Later Judah became a police officer. He worked with Dothan Police Department for a number of years, to include several years as a Criminal Investigator.

Following his tenure with Dothan Police Department, Judah began training for a private company. All of what he did with that company we do not know, but it was extensive training with the military.

Judah had no inside track that he was the only local person selected to be interviewed. The members of the Houston County Commission did not know him until this process when he applied and was interviewed.

I do applaud the Commissioners, after I had written several articles being critical of them, for following my suggestion and hiring someone locally. I thought it was a total slap in the face of the local workforce that they only selected one person locally to be interviewed.

But thanks for following my advise that out of 105,000 people in Dothan - Houston County, at least one person was qualified to serve as Dothan - Houston County Emergency Management Director.

Judah has served as a volunteer Deputy Sheriff with Houston County Sheriff Department for a number of years since leaving Dothan Police Department. So he brings to the position an already established working relationship with law enforcement.

It is my belief that Chris Judah will change the image and working relationship of Dothan - Houston County Emergency Management Agency. It will move from a geriatrics home building a second retirement to one of being active and involved with all volunteer EMS and Fire throughout this county and paid EMS and Fire throughout the county, and to law enforcement agencies.

To those who have never heard of Dothan - Houston County EMA, I think you will under Judah's leadership. And I think that image will be positive.

LOCAL PEOPLE can do the jobs here contrary to the actions the Houston County Commissioners were headed. And I thank them for following my advise, that at least one person could be found locally for that position.

We wish Chris Judah good luck as he takes over his reigns. I urge all volunteers and paid throughout the county to work with him. I also urge him to watch his back for some fellow co-workers.
