KINSEY:   1:41 AM.  Two Houston County Sheriff Deputies were blocking Highway 431 near Headland Avenue intersection and towards Garden of Memory. The reason for the blockage was due to a cable provider placing a line across Highway 431.

A southbound semi on Highway 431 failed to see the deputy on a marked vehicle. That Deputy happened to be outside of his vehicle and was able to dive out of the way. The Deputy received injuries from flying debris.

The semi traveled further south crossing through the median and into the northbound lane of traffic. The semi struck the second Houston County Sheriff Deputy who was on a marked patrol vehicle. That Deputy was in his patrol vehicle.

The second deputy was conscious and alert.

Rolling to the scene were other Deputies on duty, Dothan Fire DEPARTMENT, Kinsey Volunteer Fire, Headland Rescue, Pilcher Ambulance, Alabama State Troopers, Dothan Police and Ashford Police.

Houston County Sheriff Donald Valenza responded to Flowers Hospital to meet the Deputies as they arrived by ambulance. Sheriff Chief Deputy Jeff Carlisle, Captain Tony Gonzalez and Captain Bill Rafferty responded to the scene.

Dothan Police Chief Steve Parrish responded to the scene.

Dothan Police and Ashford Police were assisting the Sheriff Department in answering calls. Sheriff day time Deputies were called out and in service.

Neither Deputy received life threatening injuries. Both patrol vehicles were totaled.

Alabama State Troopers is in charge of the accident investigation.

Houston County Sheriff Chaplin Joe Holland responded to the hospital. Also Houston County Commissioner Brandon Shoupe responded to the hospital to check on the Deputies.
