Within minutes, mother and daughter, 8, killed in separate Alabama 117 crashes

A mother and her young daughter both were killed in separate crashes near their DeKalb County home on Alabama 117 Tuesday afternoon. Julia Yates Patterson, 39, was killed in a two-car crash around 3 p.m., state trooper spokesman Curtis Summerville said.
Her 8-year-old daughter, Elizabeth "Libby" Patterson, was fatally struck by a vehicle about 30 minutes later on the same highway, troopers said.
