Woman Arrested on Multiple Charges after Fleeing Deputies

On December 25, 2016 approximately 8:00 pm Deputies from the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office was in pursuit of a white sedan traveling north on Hwy 71 into Jackson County. Deputies from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office attempted to conduct a traffic stop at the intersection of Rocky Creek Rd.
The sedan continued to flee deputies at speeds of 88 mph. The sedan then travel to the Wal-Mart area and made a u-turn traveling back south on Hwy 71. The sedan then turned west onto Magnolia Road and traveled to Hwy 73. The sedan turned north on Hwy 73, traveling at a high rate of speed. The sedan sideswiped construction barracades near Filmore Road and was disabled.
The driver, later identified as Sandra Ann Powell, refused to follow deputy commands to exit the car. Once Powell was taken out of the car and as deputies questioned her about injuries, Powell pulled down her pants and defecated in front of her car. Powell was taken into custody and transported to Jackson Hospital for medical evaluation. After Powell was released from the hospital she was escorted to a deputy’s car to be transported to Jackson County Correctional Facility. As Powell was placed into the car she kicked the deputy in the stomach area.
Powell was charged with Fleeing or attempting to elude, Reckless Driving, Lewd and Lascivious conduct, Battery on Law Enforcement Officer, Risting an Officer with Violence. Powell was transported to the Jackson County Correctional Facility.
