A man was fatally gunned down in a west Birmingham neighborhood this morning in a what police and witnesses described as a dramatic "ambush."
Birmingham police on Tuesday evening identified the victim as Reginald Bailey. He was 27.
The shooting, described by police as a "calculated act of violence" happened at 11:24 a.m. in the Elyton neighborhood, one block away from Legion Field. Birmingham police spokesman Lt. Sean Edwards said Bailey was driving his 1988 Chevrolet Monte Carlo when someone in a dark SUV and another person in a white pickup truck hemmed in the victim and opened fire on his vehicle.
Witnesses reported hearing at least four to five shots. The gunmen fled.
