This morning surrounded by friends and family Houston County District 3 Commissioner Jackie Battles announced his bid for re-election for the district 3 seat. Battles currently holds this position and has is looking forward to another term.
He believes in moral obligation, he believes in God, Family and Friends. Today had his pastor, Brother Jim Tate, and his wife Cindy and 2 boys Josh and Cole.
He has enjoyed serving as your County Commissioner; it seems like just yesterday that he was elected to serve in this position.
As your Commissioner he has completed the mandatory classes and he is working on the graduate program. These classes are designed to make you a better Commissioner.
As your Commissioner he has served on several boards of directors, Solid waste Authority, MPO, and the 911 Board. The 911 system has experienced many changes in the last 2 years, they hired a 911 coordinator, updated Technology in Communication and we are closer now than ever to having a joint Corn Center for the city and county.
In the year 2010 when he was a candidate he made a commitment to support Economical Growth and help bring jobs to Houston County. According to the Ala. Dept. of Industrial relations for Houston County in December 2010 the unemployment rate was at 8% it is now at 5.4%.
This accounts for 1,257 people working now that wasn't working back then. He has personally brought a Tenn. base company to HC and scratch started a business that is presently located and
operating at 1750. Kinsey Road known as nexAir
I also committed to be a working Comm. to be approachable, answer phone calls and personally go out and see what work needed to be done. One of the projects that I take pride in is the litter program; it was not in existence when I was elected but I saw a need for this program and it has really help the looks of our highways.
Another project is the new garbage can program, after several complaints we see a need for this program, we are doing a trial run in Madrid right now but I anticipate this being a permanent way to pick up the garbage. As a County Commissioner he thinks it is very important to live out in the county where you depend on county services. By living out in the county and working in the city he gets to experience both city and county services. The city and county have different rules and regulations.
We are living in a soft economy, where sometimes our expenses outweighs our income but we constantly looking for ways to cut our expenses but not the services to the citizens, and we have been able to do that without burdened the citizens with higher taxes.
Battles stated that “I can truly say for every motion I made and vote that I casted was for the best interest of the people that live In Houston County. So I stand before you today and ask you for your vote and support.”
On June 3 RE-ELECT Jackie Battles for Houston County Commission District 3.
