102-page bill to reorganize Alabama legislative branch expected to stir much debate (updated)

Several bills being pushed by the Republican majority in the state Senate for the stated purpose of making government more efficient are expected to come up for debate this week.


Of those, a 102-page bill to reorganize much of the legislative branch is expected to generate the most debate, several senators said today.


The bill, sponsored by Sen. Jimmy Holley, R-Elba, would abolish about a half-dozen boards and concentrate power under a new Joint Committee on Legislative Operations.
