Cullman County Sheriff Mike Rainey told The Times that an unidentified man called 911 Sunday night and claimed bombs had been placed at the Cullman hospital, as well as Marshal Medical Centers North and South, in Guntersville and Boaz respectively.
The caller claimed the alleged bombs were set to explode tonight. A full scale evacuation is almost complete as of 9:30 p.m., and authorities are preparing to search the hospital.
Cullman Regional Medical Center chief executive officer Jim Weidner said all patients had been evacuated from the hospital and moved to the old Woodland Hospital site. Another report said the civic center in Cullman was also opened for patients.
Weidner said the threat was received about 9 p.m. and the evacuation began immediately. He said police are checking through the hospital with dogs to locate any potential explosives. He expects the police to finish the scan of the facilities by 10:15 to 10:30 p.m.
10:42. The Cullman Times: The officials have cleared in the initial search. They are planning for the patients return and asking the public to stay clear. Investigators say that there are suspects in the hospital bomb threat. Thanks to Trent Moore with The Cullman Times for the updates.
