HOUSTON COUNTY: 1:26 AM. Houston County Sheriff 911 dispatched a motor vehicle accident, vehicle verses a motorcycle, Highway 231 South in front of Dothan National.
When Houston County Sheriff Deputies arrived they found one person complaining of head injuries. The injuries appeared to be minor in nature.
Rehobeth Fire - Rescue responded to the scene. One person was transported by Rehobeth Rescue to the hospital, non emergency.
At 2:11 AM ( wreck dispatched at 1:26 AM ), Houston County Sheriff Deputies requested an estimated time of arrival for the Alabama Department of Law Enforcement Trooper to arrive. The deputies were told a minimum of one hour.
There are at least 4 Alabama Department of Law Enforcement Troopers which live writhin a 5 mile radius of this accident scene. This call was some 45 minutes active when the deputies were told it would be a minimum of one hour for the Trooper to arrive on the scene.
Traditionally Deputies respond to accidents to assist. The investigation of the accident belongs to the Alabama Department of Law Enforcement - Trooper Division. Tonight I know of at least 3 of the Deputies on duty who have investigated traffic accidents when they worked with other agencies.
And this accident, it did not take a rocket scientist to complete a accident report. Since the Alabama Department of Law Enforcement can not handle their duties promptly and efficiently, then it is time for Houston County Sheriff Donald Valenza to have deputies start working wrecks. No reason to wait on the Troopers.
