16 Year Old Hit By Escambia County Sheriff's VehicleMarty Bowden

A 2011 Escambia County Sheriff's Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling westbound on U.S. Highway 90 in the inside westbound lane. Pedestrian Aaliyah S. Howard and Pedestrian Louise Johnson were walking side by side, westbound, in the inside westbound lane with their backs toward approaching traffic. Pedestrian Howard was walking on the right side of Pedestrian Johnson. The driver of the vehicle was approaching the pedestrians from the rear and was not able to recognize the pedestriansin the roadway in sufficient time to take evasive action. The left front of the marked Escambia County Sheriff's vehicle collided with Pedestrian Howard and the left side mirror collided with pedestrian Johnson. Pedestrian Howard was projected to the northwest where she came to rest in the median. The vehicle was brought to a controlled stop just North of the crash scene area.
Pedestrian Louise Johnson, 16, of Pensacola, Florida was trasnported to Sacred Heart Hospital for minor injuries.
Aaliyah S. Howard, 16, of Pensacola, Florida was pronounced deceased due to injuries she sustained in the crash.
This crash is still under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol's Office.
