2 PM Dedication Today - Angel of Hope - Westgate Park

DOTHAN:    At 2 PM today ( Sunday ) at Westgate Park the dedication to the Angel of Hope monument.


Everyone is invited to attend.


The monument is the result of many people working, most especially Steve Hardwick, to erect a monument in memory of those children who have lost their lives early in life. The Angel of Hope so that those who have gone before us will be remembered. A place to remind us to reflect on memories of children who have died.


While I have not experienced and pray that I will never experience it, burying your child is a heart gut wrenching experience. Your life will never be the same.


Elected as Coroner at age 21, I have worked 1154 deaths in a four year period. I have woke parents up in the middle of the night when I was 22,23,24,25 years of age to tell them their son or daughter had been killed in a wreck, murder or self inflicted means. I have worked cases where someone's child died during their sleep.


While I felt for these families, I wept with these families, and did all I could to make their journey easier, there was no way that I could.


But it was not until after my four term as Coroner, of which I was single, did I have children. And while I have held the families hands, cried with them, and felt for them, it was not until I had children of my own that I really understood what that unconditional love for a child really was.


After having my children, I realize the love a parent has for a child.


Mr. Steve Hardwick has found a calling in raising money to help people who have had children struck with disease and fighting for their life. Steve has baked pound cakes in efforts to raise money to help families. Steve and others have raised thousands of dollars to help families.


The Angel of Hope is a tribute and a place to reflect to the Heavenly Father in rememberance.
