During the season, certain players excel in their efforts at the game of baseball. These players are picked by a joint effort of all the coaches in each age group to become Dothan American League’s (Doug Tew) representative in All Star tournament competition.
These players not only represent our park, but the City of Dothan as they compete in these tournaments. They are required to practice 4 days a week, 3-4 hours per day, for weeks leading up to competition.
This is a great commitment on the part of the players and parents. It is also a financial strain. There are expenses for equipment, travel, lodging, food, and other incidentals that can add up to thousands of dollars during the course for their bid to make it to the Dixie Youth World Series.
Dothan American League's "O"Zone team (11 - 12 year olds) won the Dixie Youth District 6 tournament and is now going on to compete in the Dixie Youth State Championship which is being played in Fairhope Alabama July 13 - 20.
Dothan American League's "O"Zone team will bagging groceries for donations today from 10:00am - 3:00pm at Winn Dixie on W. Main Street in an effort to raise money to help assist with their expenses. Would like to think Winn Dixie for all their help.
