A 2006 Isuzu Box Truck and a 2002 Jeep Liberty were westbound on SR-30 (U.S. 98), approaching the intersection with Ortega Street. The box truck was in the outside lane and the Liberty was in the inside lane beside the box truck, traveling slightly faster. A 2001 Ford van was eastbound in the inside lane of SR-30 approaching the intersection with Ortega Street. The Isuzu turned left from the outside lane to the median break and stopped. The Liberty was forced to the left to avoid hitting the box truck. The Liberty then crossed the median and entered the eastbound inside lane. The front of the Liberty struck the front of the Ford. The Liberty then rotated counter clockwise and came to rest on the South shoulder, facing East, East of the point of impact. The Ford came to rest across the eastbound lanes, facing South, near the point of impact. The driver and passenger of the Jeep Liberty, Sara Rios, 30, and Catalina Rios, 12, were seriously injured in the crash. The driver of the Ford, Pamela Allen, 61, was seriously injured in the crash. The box truck driver was charged with Improper Lane Change and Pulling Out in Front of Vehicle Going Same Direction.
