3:26 PM. Felony Traffic Stop Ross Clark Circle At Lowe’s

DOTHAN:    3:26 PM.   There was a shooting in Ozark Alabama this afternoon. The suspect was transported to Dale Medical Center. Exactly where and the circumstances of the shooting I do not know at this time.

In fact I had just gotten in the truck leaving Westgate Park from the Angel of Hope dedication when I heard Dothan Police behind a vehicle matching the description.

Dothan Police were soouthbound on Highway 231 North of a white van with California license plates. The van had dark tinted windows. From what Dothan Police could observe occupied by several people.

The suspect desciption were four black males with dreads.

Dothan Police continued to follow the suspect vehicle turning right onto Ross Clark Circle. Dothan 911 Center was in contact with Ozark - Dale County 911 Center and officers were in contact with overhead aircraft.

The vehicle was followed around Ross Clark Circle to Highway 52 West at Lowe’s. At this time, based on the information that Dothan Police had, a "felony" traffic stop was initiated. Multiple Dothan Police Officers were in various positions behind the suspect vehicle.

Through the PA system on the police cars the driver was directed to exit the vehicle with hands in the air and back towards the police officers. Once the suspect reached the officers as a safety precaution handcuffs were placed on the male suspect.

The passsenger was then directed by police through the PA system to exit the vehicle with hands in the air and back towards the police officers.

Traffic was stopped on Ross Clark Circle during this felony traffic stop.

Once the two in the front were safely removed from the vehicle it was quickly determined this was nothing to do with the shooting. Dothan Police had the children exit the vehicle and join the parents.

The situation was explained to the travelers what had occurred and the matching description. And the officers could not detect all that was in the vehicle.

Dothan Police did an outstanding job in surveillance of the vehicle and attempts to obtain additional information before the traffic stop. Then treating the people with the utmost dignity and respect, along with safety of the people in the car and the officers.

At this time we have no more information concerning the shooting.
