On Saturday February 6th the Krewe of Kolosse will have its 3rd annual Mardi Gras parade. We will assemble our floats and participants at Solomon park after lunch and after a Blessing of the Fleet by Father Peter Wong we will start our parade with the traditional cannot shot. We hope to have close to 30 floats and groups in the parade and will begin moving at 3:00 with escort by the Dothan Police Department. Our route takes us south on Girard to Girard Elementary, right on Pontiac past Evergreen Presbyterian and then onto Montezuma in front of Calvary Baptist and continue on Montezuma until we go behind and beside First United Methodist Church and cross Main Street on Park Avenue. We turn left on Catalpa and go past Nativity Episcopal Church and continue on to Foster Street where we turn left and proceed to the end of the route at Foster and Troy Street by the Federal Courthouse. We will mark the route with a colorful fleu de lis at each intersection showing the direction the parade will go from that point. These are artistic and colorful so people can spot them beginning Monday February 1st.

We are a family friendly parade and will be throwing beads, moonpies, cups, shirts and many other throws that kids and adults will be delighted to catch. Our parade is open to other groups to join so we have many different demographics represented in the parade. We are Dothan’s first Mardi Gras Parade but there is now a second parade for pre-school children called the Mystics of Solomon Park. Their parade is in decorated wagons pulled around the park and happens on Saturday January 30th at 11:00 at Solomon Park.

More information is available on the Facebook pages for the Krewe of Kolosse Mardi Gras Parade and the Mystics of Solomon Park Parade.
