5:25 PM. Houston County School Board Rejects Superintendent's Recomendation

HOUSTON COUNTY:    The Houston County School Board met for their regular monthly meeting. The meeting was held at Ashford Elementary School.

All school board members were present with the exception of Jimmy Kilgore. Houston County School Superintendent David Sewell was also present.

The board had two different "personnel actions". Page 1 of the Personnel Action was approved. In a motion made by Ken Lane and second by Marty Collins, that page ) it was actually three pages ) passed with flying colors. That page 1 ( but actually three pages ) contained 1. Recomendation 2. Leave of Abscence 3. Retirement 4. Resignation 5. Saturday School/Extended Day 6. Coaching Supplement 7. RTI/SI Supplement 8. Contract 9. Substitute Bus Driver 10. Correction 11. Title 1 Contract 12. Volunteers 

Then page 2, a motion was made by School Board Member Ricky Moore to approve. Then all other school board members; Marty Collins, Ken Lane, Gary Cox ( Chairman ), David Hollinger and Scott Thomas just sit there. Not one board member made a second to the motion.

UNOFFICIALLY it is my understanding that this is the recommendation of the Superintendent to fill the position he vacated when he took over as Superintendent.  But, other than Ricky Moore, the Board Members failed to approve page 2. Now we are not sure if page 2 contained only one name or multiple names. When the board does not approve the item the "page 2" is not released.

Some of the board members were against David Sewell winning as Superintendent. Ano they are flexing their muscles in Sewell's second Board Meeting since taking over the reigns. We have not spoken to Superintendent Sewell at all about this issue. But before he took office I was prepared to watch the School Board members actions.

And tonight my guess was proven to be correct. The School Board will "pretend" to support while having that knife blade in the back Of Sewell.

There were other items approving contracts for maintenance such as sewers ( needed tonight at the meeting because some School Board members were full ), worn out tablets, fencing, prepare and let bids for bathrooms, approve Articulation Agreement, approve dual enrollment agreement with Enterprise Junior College, discussion of five block system, and other items.

I did not stay for entire meeting. Only so much one can stand.
