72 Hour Hearing Docket For District Judge Benjamin Lewis

HOUSTON COUNTY: Houston County District Court Judge Benjamin Lewis holds a 72 hour hearing each morning, Monday through Friday. The hearing is for the persons in the custody of Houston County Sheriff Andy Hughes and has not made bond.
The persons come before Judge Lewis through closed circuit TV from the Houston County Jail to the second floor courtroom that is assigned to Judge Lewis.
At the hearing Judge Lewis informs the persons of their rights, what they have been charged with, the range of punishment, and their right to request a preliminary hearing within 30 days of their arrest. The Judge also asks if they have an attorney, do they plan to employ an attorney, if not do they need an attorney appointed. If they need an attorney appointed, Judge Lewis reviews their financial statement and makes a decision to appoint a contract attorney.
