HOUSTON COUNTY: Houston County District Court Judge Benjamin Lewis holds a 72 hour hearing Monday through Friday at 8:30 AM. The hearings are held via a TV monitor from the jail to the courtroom which Judge Lewis is honored to represent the people of Houston County in.
NOTE: Never - ever is a courtroom a particular Judge’s Courtroom. It is the courtroom that the PEOPLE allow the Judge to use to represent us!
When a person is arrested, they are brought before a Judge within 72 hours of the arrest. At the hearing the Judge informs the person of the criminal offense against them, the range of punishment, do they have an attorney, can they afford an attorney, if not, do they qualify for a court appointed attorney.
District Couurt Judge Benjamin Lewis: For the record, Houston County District Court Judge Benjamin Lewis is doing a wonderful job. He treats people with dignity and respect, he "listens" to what is presented and makes a reasonable and intelligent decision based on the facts and circumstances of the case. Judge Lewis will hold "both" sides to a burden of responsibility in a case, not showing favor to either side. That is all you can ask a Judge to do. Be fair and reasonable based on the facts.
In watching Judge Lewis and being in his courtroom, Houston County is being served well.
