A Few Bible Thoughts For Your Day And A Book Giveaway

Hey Everybody!

I hope your week is off to a great start.  The weather is beautiful, though we could certainly use a good soaking.  We had a great day Sunday here at Enon, and are looking forward to Bible class Wednesday night at 7.

I have more copies of the book, "Receiving the Gift of Salvation".  If you are interested, just send me a quick email with name and address and I will get you a copy.  We have had interest in the book so far and would love to be able to send one to you.  It is an easy read with just under 30 pages.  Photo of the book is at the bottom of this post.

For today, here are a few Bible thoughts.

Sacred And Holy

As obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy” (1Peter 1:14-16).

Holiness reflects the aura of Jehovah’s fundamental nature.  To be "profane" (i.e., unspiritual) means to be far from the presence of Deity.  Esau was shallow because of the distance between him and the Creator (Heb. 12:16).  A failure to be spiritual means that we cannot please our Maker (Heb, 12:14-15).  Secularism is a denial of the mandates of heaven (1 Tim. 6:17).  Hedonism is the popular way of life that panders to carnal desires and overwhelmingly crushes godly emphasis and endeavor. It has been accurately stated, "Conscience is what hurts when everything else feels so good!"

We live in a world of self-centered people who seldom think of Christian endeavor or heavenly matters.  Satan has a grasp on millions who turn a deaf ear to godliness.  It is much easier to compromise morals than to build conviction for truth and decency.  So many people prefer the path of least resistance to dedication and sacrifice.  It takes no effort at all to go to hell. Just do nothing.  But the pathway to heaven is built on solid conviction and determined effort.

Cynics poke fun at devoted Christians for being so simple and naive. Educated fools laugh at those who walk by faith (2 Cor. 5:7): Someone wisely reminds us: "Amateurs built the ark while professionals built the Titanic!"  There is no substitute for basic purity and righteousness.  Holiness is the reflection of our determination to be like God: "Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory" (Isa. 6:3).  Ardent Christians reflect the glory of the Lord in their lives of spiritual beauty.

Following the highway of holiness will make us seem odd to others (Isa. 35:8).  People may even think we have "been with Jesus" (Acts 4:13).  Being on the cutting edge hurts, as one pundit declared.  However, such a result was a blessing to Joseph, Joshua, Samuel and Jeremiah.  It is a joy to stand up for Jesus, and to stand out in a crowded and wicked world.  In 1 Pet. 2:9-12, we are told that we are "called out of darkness into His marvelous light." This clearly proves that Christians are to be different and influential in the midst of a decadent world.  Sacred and holy should be the bulwark of God’s people!  "The Lord will give strength to His people; the Lord will bless His people with peace" (Psa. 29:11).

The converse of holiness is vulgarity, carnality and sensual behavior.  Do those words remind you of Hollywood, television and modern music?!  We are on the brink of ruin and spiritual suicide, ala the Roman Empire of yesteryear.  It will take deep resolve to get back to sanity and basic loyalty to Bible principles.  But, by the grace of God, we can do it. "Jehovah is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer, my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold" (Psa. 18:2).  If corrupt Corinth could be fertile soil for Christianity (Acts 18:8), there must be hope for us today: "Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, all you who hope in the LORD" (Psa. 31:24).

Pulpits must overflow with strong Bible preaching.  Homes must get back to the pristine beauty of holiness (1 Cor. 6:20).  Members of the church of the Lord Jesus must be living epistles of righteousness.  Young people who claim to be Christians must quit acting, talking and dressing like those in the world, in order to be "accepted" in the group.  Living holy and sacred lives is the remedy for a sinful and shameful society.  Our sacred devotion can bless a wicked world.  Why not do our part, as Christians, starting now?

Have a great week!  Come See Us, we’d love to have you!!
