A Little Bible Q & A For Your Day

Hey Everybody!

Hope the week has been positive for you.  Here is a little Q & A for your day.  This Sunday is our Potluck.  Come see us, we'd love to have you!  Bible Class at 9:00 Worship at 10:00 Potluck after morning worship.

The Question:

Dear Brother:  A friend of mine mentioned the rapture.  I have looked in my Bible and can find nothing about this.  Can you tell me what the Bible says about this event?

The Answer:

I, too, have looked in my Bible and can find nothing about a "rapture."  Usually this refers to Jesus' return at which time He will "rapture" all of His saints and they will join Him in heaven.  Typically, the thinking goes, there will be years of tribulation and then a thousand year reign of Jesus on the earth.  Then there will be another coming of Jesus to judge the world.  The difficult part is that none of this is taught clearly or specifically in scripture.  It is a man-made concept.

“Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth—those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation” (John 5:28-29).  Jesus says "an hour" is coming in which all people, good and bad will be raised.  “Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained.  He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead” (Acts 17:30-31).  Paul also says there will be "a day" in which the world, not part of the world, will be judged.

But the apostles taught further on this: "I have hope in God, which they themselves also accept, that there will be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and the unjust" (Acts 24:15).  Finally, Paul says there will be "a" resurrection of the dead, both the good and evil.

If there will be "a day" and "an hour" in which "a" resurrection of the dead will occur, I don't see a place for any rapture of the righteous upon Jesus' return.  The Bible speaks often of Jesus' return.  It does not mention Him coming for a few and then coming back later for the rest.  In fact, when He comes, everyone will know it.  "Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him" (Rev. 1:7).  The Lord Jesus will come back.  When He does, all the world will see and know He is here.  He will raise all the dead, good and bad, judge the whole world and take His redeemed home.  Again, there is no room for a rapture as taught by men.
