A Traffic Stop Leads to a Drug Arrest in Marianna

On 3/12/13 at approximately 10:53 P.M. Officers with the Marianna Police Department observed a Kia passenger vehicle with an expired license plate headed east bound on Lafayette Street. Officers initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and made contact with the driver of the vehicle identified as Elijah Lee Johnson Jr. While Officers were speaking with Johnson Jr. they noticed he appeared to be nervous and was acting slightly suspicious. Officers gained consent to search the vehicle from Johnson Jr.
While conducting a search of the vehicle Officers located a backpack in the vehicle which contained 0.9 grams of powder cocaine and 2.7 grams of crack cocaine. Officers also found some small plastic bags along with the narcotics, which are typically used with the packaging of the drug for sale. Johnson Jr. was arrested and transported to the Jackson County Correctional Facility to await first appearance.
