Abbeville Police Chief Marlos Walker we have learned is resigning and accepting the Ozark police chief's job. Walker has come under severe pressure in Abbeville in recent weeks after a series of police reports were lost and complaints he was refusing to investigate incidents of a child being attacked. Mayor Giganti forced Walker to meet with a DHR representative and the victims's mother where he acknowledged the reports were lost and then refused to investigate the case. The child was attacked on three separate occasions within the city limits and had multiple eyewitnesses. The individual alleged to have attacked the child was being recruited by Walker to serve as a auxiliary police officer. Most recently Walker has mistakenly lost or destroyed evidence from an homicide investigation. Two lone council members, Terry Allums and Brent Murphy, have stubbornly defended Walker and attempted to to strangely give him a raise which was rejected. Most of the officers that former police chief Mike Jones spent years recruiting and training have left the department in the past several months. Former officer Colt Ludlum recently presented his resignation to the council in a meeting and described there atmosphere Walker had created which was untenable. We hope Abbeville can move back to the direction Mike Jones had the department and hire a good candidate that focuses on community policing and integrity be restored to the police department.
