Abbeville's Acting Police Chief Wright - Well Was Wrong

ABBEVILLE:    Acting Abbeville Police Chief Kevin Wright believes that even if his order violates the law he will suspend when his orders are violated.


Abbeville Police Officer Derrick Mize believes Acting Chief Wright is bullying him.


Last Monday evening Officer Mize was represented in a personnel hearing before the Abbeville City Council by Dustin Fowler. Fowler of Buntin, Etheridge and Fowler Law Firm explained to Chief Wright, well that he was wrong!!!


The issue is Officer Mize worked from 3PM to 3AM. Mize got off from duty protecting the citizens of Abbeville, had to drive home get some sleep, and 3 hours from when he got off was to meet others to ride to Montgomery for a school.


Officer Mize did not make it. He was exhausted.


Well Chief Wright suspended Officer Mize for three days for not going to the school. Chief Wright testified that Officer Mize could sleep in the patrol car with someone else driving on the ride to Montgomery. Even though the police car had a cage in it.


Now the expectations of Chief Wright for Officer  Mize was after Chief Wright had "slept tight for the night" in his comfortable bed.


Attorney Dustin Fowler so politely explained to Chief Wright that federal law dictates Officer Mize was not allowed to work so many hours without his time to sleep tight tonight.


Chief Wright said even with the federal law violations he expected his order to be followed and his suspension was correct.


The matter is now in the hands of the Abbeville City Council.


In another matter, Abbeville Municipal Clerk Pam Ward resigned the next day after this hearing. According to sources, Ward has attempted to run the Ciry of Abbeville. Sources say that she felt the Police a Department and Police Chief reported to her.


When the Mayor informed her .....no no....the Police Chief reports to the Mayor, Ward resigned.


There has been controversy surrounding the appointment of a new Police Chief. Ward has been reported to playing games in that appointment and the council is split on the selection of Police Chief. And part of the council has been very unhappy with Ward's actions.


In fact the actions has possibly made the members of the City Council and the City of Abbeville in danger of civil actions.
