Accident In Okaloosa County Leaves One Serious And One Critical

On April 29, 2012, The Florida Highway Patrol responded to an accident at the intersection of US 98 and Gulf National Sea Shore Drive. Erica Beth Colannino was seriously injured in the crash and was taken to Sacred Heart Hosptial. Michael S. Lewis of Toledo, Ohio is listed in critical condition at Sacred Heart Hospital. Neither Colannino nor Lewis were wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.


 


The 1992 Honda, driven by Erica Beth Colannino, 22, of Navarre, FL, was traveling eastbound on US 98 on the inside lane at a high rate of speed. The 2003 Ford SUV was traveling eastbound on US 98 on the inside lane in front of the Honda. The Honda failed to yield to the Ford as its front collided into the rear of the Ford. After impact, the Honda traveled in a northeasterly direction and traveled across the center median, across the westbound lanes, and onto the westbound shoulder, then overturned, north of the roadway. The Honda's driver and passenger, Michael S. Lewis, 22, of Toledo, Ohio, were ejected from the vehicle. The Ford SUV traveled in an easterly direction after impact and came to a control stop on US 98's eastbound shoulder.


The Honda's driver was flown to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola by Air Heart 3, and the passenger was later transported to Sacred Heart by Ambulance.
