Dothan, AL (March 30, 2017) ---- Alabama ranks 5th in the nation for kidney disease. Of the 400,000 Alabamians with chronic kidney disease, almost 9,000 must undergo life-saving dialysis treatments each week. Since 1975, the Alabama Kidney Foundation (AKF) has been the only state-based organization dedicated to improving prevention awareness and the individual quality of life of Alabamians affected by kidney disease.
The AKF is pleased to announce the annual Wiregrass Kidney Walk/5K, taking place at Westgate Park – Kiwanis Pavilion Saturday, April 22, 2017. The morning will be full of fun entertainment, children’s activities, cold drinks, healthy snacks, door prizes, and much more! Registration starts at 8:00 am for both the walk and run. A $30 minimum donation is required for adult registration for the walk (t shirt, team prizes are awarded with a minimum $200 raised per team). A $25 minimum donation is required (t shirt and top runner awards are presented). Patients and children attend for free The Run begins at 8:30 am and the Walk will begin at 9:00 am.
The AKF’s annual Kidney Walk is one of its most important fundraising events. Last year, the state-wide Kidney Walks provided over $500,000 in direct support to kidney patients in need.
