A proposed state lottery for Alabama passed the Alabama House of Representatives tonight on a second vote after the first vote fell just short.
The House voted 64-35 to pass the bill. That's one more vote than the minimum 63 needed.
The House voted 61-37 for the bill on the first vote, two short of the number needed because it is a proposed amendment to the state constitution.
The House then voted to reconsider the bill.
Lawmakers did not take the second vote immediately, but resumed a debate on the bill that started this morning.
When they did vote again at about 11:30 p.m., Reps. Kelvin Lawrence, D-Hayneville and David Sessions, R-Grand Bay, voted for the bill after voting against it the first time.
