An Athens native and his girlfriend have been charged in a Nashville double murder so brutal that police could not immediately determine how the victims had been killed.
Brandon Griswold, 20, and his girlfriend Whitney Gray, 21, were booked Monday evening on two counts each of criminal homicide, according to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department. They are accused of killing Preston Claybrooks, Jr., 24, and his longtime girlfriend, Alexandra Grubbs, 23, who were living with Griswold and Gray in Griswold's apartment in East Nashville.
The motive is believed to be a lingering personal dispute, which involved heroin use, police say.
Claybrooks and Grubbs were likely killed on Sept. 21. The Tennessean reports that investigators believe Griswold and Gray lived for several days with their decomposing bodies wrapped in bedspreads and shoved into a closet.
