All Of The Stuff About The State School Board Superintendent Selection

MONTGOMERY:    Last week members of the State Board of Education threw a curve ball to the education community in the selection of Michael Sentance.


Sentance does not have a background as a teacher or school principal. And that has caused a outcry. Education commentator and blogger Larry Lee has created a online petition calling for the Alabama State Board of Education to rescind their decision.


The letter by Larry Lee calls the decision "indefensible".


WHAT? Come on Larry Lee...


First let me say that Alabama Governor Robert Bentley has proven to be an habitual liar. I hope he was a much better doctor than a leader or a Governor. I recognized Bentley's habitual lies and his lack of ability to lead this state early on. It took others much longer. Before I state my thoughts I want it clear, ZERO confidence in Robert Bentley. 



ABOUT THE APPOINTMENT


I have said often times that just because you can stand in a classroom and teach does not mean that you can run a multi million dollar organization. Education is a multi million dollar operation and is a business.


Knowing how to teach is probably the least that the top person of the Alabama State Board of Education needs to know. The second in command can be a person who knows education.


What Alabama needs is a sharp businessman. Someone like John Watson.


Alabama needs someone with business sense and that knows how to handle a large corporation, someone who can make things happen. And just because you can teach english does not mean you know how to make things happen. Does not mean that you know how to manage the large corporation.


Government needs a major overhaul. Those in government have three primary goals; (1) will I survive to get my 25 years in order to retire (2) why have I not gotten a raise, (3) they went up on my insurance.


And what we need is someone who is not interested in the retirement. But someone interested in making positive things happen. 


So Larry Lee - get with the real world instead of compounding the problems. Because so far those involved, all they have done is screw it up.
